When is the best time to transplant houseplants? also, I have ficus that is very tall and straggly (almost like a Y ). Should I transplant and then trim or vice versa???

I have always found it best to transplant potted plants at the start of growth cycle, so I usually wait till mid May before starting to repot in both the greenhouse and the house.
You might want to repot your ficus at this time, and after it has been repotted, is the best time to prune
